The National Indo-American Association for Senior Citizens (NIAASC) will be holding a one-day conference on Saturday, April 29, 2000 at the Kerala Center, 1824 Fairfax Street, Elmont (Long Island), New York. The conference starts at 9:00 in the morning and would end with dinner at 6:00 in the evening. Breakfast, lunch and two coffee/tea breaks are also included.

During the 18 months' deliberations NIAASC has come across elders and community groups with problems and issues pertaining to Medicare/Medicaid as well as in understanding the process of setting up senior citizen programs/centers. The conferencewill thus focus only these two areas. Other issues faced by the seniors in the areas suchas housing for seniors, economic opportunities, health care will be addressed in the future conferences/workshops.

The morning session will be devoted to Medicare/Medicaid led by Yolanda Sanchez Ph.D., project manager and Ellen Bhang, project coordinator at the National Asian Pacific Center on Aging (NAPCA), based in Seattle, Washington State. The presentation will be followed with an interactive panel discussion with the attendees, and the panelists will be selected from among the experts from the offices of Medicaid, Social Security, Health Care Finance Administration, and Health Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program.

The afternoon session will be led by Rena Iacono, Commissioner of the Department of Senior Citizen Affairs, Nassau County (an area agency on aging), followed by interactive discussion with the panelists experienced in running senior citizen centers or programs under various avenues. The purpose of the afternoon session is to provide information to community leaders, seniors and others for setting up senior citizen centers or programs in their communities.

The conference will be helpful to seniors, caregivers (professionals as well as family members), community leaders, organization representatives. The conference will be inviting seniors from othere thnic groups, such as Chinese, to share their experience in the above two fields.

EARLY REGISTRATION BY April 17, 2000 IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED AS THECONFERENCE IS LIMITED TO 75 PARTICIPANTS.

For registration and sponsorship, please fill out the form and mail it along with your registration and sponsorship fees. Names of the sponsors will be printed in the program brochure. One can pay membership dues by becoming a member at the time of registration and thereby pay membership fees, by filling out the membership form on the back of registration form.
